Beechworth Music Festival 2015

Not sure what to do Australia Day weekend in 2015? Beechworth Music Festival should have you covered.

Held at the Madman’s Gully Amphitheatre on the farmlands of the former Mayday Hills Lunatic Asylum (now decommissioned) in the heart of Beechworth, Beechworth Music Festival is running its second annual fest, with an array of national and local acts performing. We like their vibe and BMF has got some amazing Aussie local and regional talent performing on that Saturday.

The 2015 line-up is pretty solid:

We’re super super pumped to hear the female-fronted shoe-gaze Beaches perform, with the alt-folk rock singer Jen Cloher and Band, and getting down to the psychedelic-reggae mix of The Bennies. They’ve got Australian rock icon Ron S. Peno playing with the Superstitions, and indie folk duo LuLuc. Following on, they’ve got a fuzz-rock band Rubber Band, a soul/funk groove with The Sugarcanes, Pearls, DJ Mermaid and finally, MC Cat McGauran.

Local Beechworth artists performing are singer/songwriter Liv Cartledge (see below for a quick intro listen to this folk superstar), The Rubber Band (for some foot stompin’ good time blues), bush poet Geoff Jackson and, originally from Beechworth, fuzz rock band My Left Boot. Other local folk include singer-songwriter Benny Williams (Victorian Alps), alt-rock outfit Hounds Homebound (Yackandandah) and Wangaratta Ukulele Band.

Here at Vicious, we are pretty impressed with local and independent festivals and acts, especially those that make a significant community effort. BMF supports local businesses, community and donates to a great local cause. Alongside the fourteen bands and artists on offer, BMF have also devised a means to get their local and regional organisations to participate in the festival. Beechworth also donates some of the gate-takings to a local cause of charity.

Camping?

Even though it is a one-day event, BMF have provided free camping for festival goers to avoid a late night drive. Even better – it’s BYO everything for camping but we suggest you check the site out for any restrictions or compliances you might need to take into account.
